The Skills Service is part of Opportunity Peterborough’s economic development portfolio. The service is funded by the Greater Peterborough Greater Cambridge Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to facilitate effective partnership working between businesses, schools and training providers as part of its ‘Signpost2Skills’ initiative. This has been delivered in Peterborough, Fenland, West Norfolk, Rutland, East Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire since 2014 and is now being extended into South Kesteven.

We offer a range of services that are designed to help schools devise a strategy for careers guidance and develop employability skills in students to ensure that they are prepared for the world of work. Key to this is raising aspirations amongst young people by providing opportunities to talk, or listen, to a wide range of employers who can share their experience, knowledge and expectations of the skills required in different industries.

We aim to enhance the careers information provided by schools and colleges by making sure young people are aware of local labour market information and opportunities available. The Skills Service and the employers we work with are supportive of the development of all young people in the workplace and the positive contribution they can add to a business.

We offer a free and impartial support service to schools across the project area, providing one central point for co-ordination of events with employers.
