A couple from Australia have made The Croft (www.thecroftbourne.co.uk) – a lifestyle living development for the over 55s in Bourne, Lincolnshire – their new home after falling for its attractive layout and design.
Mr Taylor and Mrs Wise lived in Australia for 28 years, before moving to a retirement community in Brigg, Lincolnshire.
Compared to their home in Australia, the Brigg retirement community simply was not their idea of ‘home’ and, after visiting family living near Bourne, the couple stumbled across The Croft located on North Road in the town.
Mrs Wise said: “The layout of The Croft is very similar to where we were living in Australia. The landscaped gardens and open spaces with footpaths running through the development really create a sense of space, whilst still maintaining a strong feeling of security.
“The Croft suited our lifestyle much more than the development in Brigg and we really like the community feel of the place. We both enjoy meeting new people, which is something that The Croft fosters well, and the layout and finish of the properties suited our active lifestyles.”
The couple purchased a Harrington three-bedroom chalet bungalow at The Croft which comprises an open plan kitchen diner, large living room, downstairs WC and a downstairs study or double bedroom. Upstairs, the property offers two further double bedrooms, an en suite and family bathroom.
The Croft consists of 75 one, two and three-bedroom homes set around attractively landscaped gardens which are a key feature of the development. It is a joint venture between Bourne-based housebuilder Larkfleet Homes (www.larkfleethomes.co.uk) and Keystone Developments (www.keystonedevelopments.co.uk), part of the Longhurst Group.
Karl Hick, CEO of Larkfleet, commented: “We are very proud of the landscaped areas at The Croft. The attractive communal gardens work very well within the layout of the whole development.
“As residents at The Croft do not have to worry about external maintenance of their properties, they can reap the rewards of well-kept gardens without having to find the time to do the work themselves.”
A communal Manor House sits at the centre of the development. The building and its surrounding garden and patio area now form a communal hub which regularly hosts events for residents and the wider community.
Mrs Wise added: “I have attended several coffee mornings and brunches in the Manor House and have also been involved in the choral evenings. I also recently exhibited some of my artwork at an art and craft exhibition on site.”
The Croft provides a range of benefits including easy access and adaptable properties, minimal maintenance, communal facilities and an estate manager on site, while still encouraging residents to live completely independent and active lives.
Mr Taylor commented: “We found the moving process incredibly easy and sales staff at The Croft were very helpful.”
The Croft offers a number of purchase options including part exchange packages, as well as an ‘assisted move’ option where The Croft can help homebuyers sell their existing homes.
In addition, The Croft offers potential homebuyers its ‘secure home purchase’ scheme and shared equity deals on selected plots.
