08:45 – 09:30   ‘Growing a sugar business in the 21st century’ with Paul Kenward, Managing Director, British Sugar
British Sugar is an unsung British success story.  The business works with over 3,000 farmers to turn 8 million tonnes of sugar beet into 60% of the UK’s demand for sugar as an ingredient; but also enough electricity to power a city the size of Peterborough, topsoil which has landscaped the Olympic Park, 500,000 tonnes of animal feed and even pharmaceutical crops.  As the market in which they operate changes dramatically, Paul will be talking about how British Sugar is evolving to meet the market, regulatory and political challenges it faces
