First residents move into Indigo

The first two residents have moved into Cross Keys Homes (CKH) new Indigo development located in the heart of Peterborough city centre.

Following the first phase being completed last week, which saw CKH take possession of 131 new affordable apartments on site, the housing association is delighted to welcome the first residents into their new homes.

Robert Walker and Natasha Martin are the first two residents to each occupy one of the 315 apartments that will be available.

Robert said: “I am really excited to be moving in. The quality of the flat is great and it’s nice to have my own place.  Having the opportunity to live closer to work and the centre of Peterborough is a great prospect.”

The keys to each of the apartments were handed over by CKH Assistant Director of Housing Needs, Ali Manji.

Ali said: “It is wonderful to welcome the first residents into their new homes at Indigo and I hope that they will be very happy living here.

“Indigo is a fantastic development that will help transform the way people live, work and socialise in today’s modern society. We hope that by developing Indigo for affordable housing and offering city centre living that we can help free up more affordable housing in Peterborough for those who have been priced out of the housing market.”

Indigo will provide 315 much needed high-quality homes offering a range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and duplexes across two connected wings when the development completes early next year.

Natasha, who also received the keys to her apartment, added: “This is my first time of moving out from the family home into a place of my own and I can’t wait. It was a spontaneous decision as I fell in love with the apartment as soon as I saw it.”

CKH Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “We are committed to providing as many social and affordable homes as we can in and around Peterborough to help combat the housing crisis, so it is great to see that from when we bought the site two years ago, we are now welcoming the first residents into their fantastic new homes. We hope they will be truly happy living here.”

The apartments are being marketed at sub-market rent levels – set at 80% of private market rent levels and are suitable for anyone who has a connection to Peterborough and has a joint income of no more than£80,000 a year.
