A team of runners from Buckles Solicitors LLP completed the White Peak Trail Run on 12 May in memory of their colleague Luke Appleby who passed away last year.
In doing so, the group has so far raised £861 in aid of Myotonic Dystrophy Support and Nottinghamshire Hospice, both of whom supported Luke and his family through his illness.
Nikki Aston, James Coppinger and Dennis Phillips, all lawyers based at the firm’s Nottingham office, took part. Nikki and James tackled the 16-mile course over tracks and a total elevation of 1400ft, whilst Dennis completed the 6.5-mile alternative route.
Nikki said: “A few of us are regular runners but thought we would choose an event to put us out of our comfort zone – and this one really did. As happens in races, it’s always fun until the first big hill, then the next dark moment is when you realise you are not halfway and with more than an hour of running still left.”
Both Nikki and James battled through injuries to run on the big day, whilst it was the first time that Dennis had entered a running event.
Nikki added: “Luke was a very keen runner and would have loved the event. All in all, there were some tough moments, but it was a great day out. No records were broken but there were happy faces at the end!”
