Celebrating community champions
Celebrating community champions

Cross Keys Homes (CKH) said a massive thank you to Peterborough residents who give back to the community at their annual Resident’s Awards evening this month.

The city’s largest landlord handed out awards to residents who received nominations from their neighbours for their hard work and dedication to making a difference. The festive evening celebrated those residents who have achieved great things for themselves, their neighbours or their whole communities.

More than 100 people attended with the red carpet even being laid out to greet the honoured guests.

Popular former DJ, Keith Dalton, hosted the evening with each of Cross Keys Homes’ Directors presenting one of the awards.

Chief Executive of Cross Keys Homes, Claire Higgins, said: “Congratulations must go to all the worthy winners and runners-up.  It’s always a challenge for the judging panel to choose a winner from the shortlisted nominees as there are so many inspirational stories.

“This year we recognised a wonderful group of young students who went on a journey in self-confidence, incredible volunteers who spend their time helping others, and the good neighbours who do Cross Keys Homes proud every time they do something to support their community.”

The winners in each of the eight award categories were:

  • Good Neighbour Award – Rangefield Social Committee, who constantly give up their time to arrange activities and lunches at their sheltered housing scheme.
  • Young Person’s Achievement Award – the Tall Ships Crew from Ormiston Bushfield Academy. The crew of 10 students aged 12 -17 took part in this year’s prestigious 5-day Tall Ships Youth Trust excursion, which was part-funded by CKH.
  • Personal Achievement (age 25+) Award – Deborah Richmond, who is enjoying a new-found confidence after completing a number of training courses with CKH.
  • Area Panel Member of the Year Award – Mick Pegler, for his unwavering commitment to improving his community.
  • Making a Difference Award – Gemma Douglas, who was nominated for her voluntary work with the Family Health Champions Project.
  • Care Hero Award –Phyllis Cusworth, the driving force behind the vibrant social scene at Kingfisher Court, Stanground.
  • Resident Involvement Award – Dorothy Rivett, who is a regular volunteer at CKH’s Community Hub in Westwood.
  • Special Recognition Award – Adrian Bratley, for the extra support he’s offered as a volunteer to learners on the ‘Learn my Way’ IT skills course.

All the winners received an award and certificate and the runners-up were also presented with certificates. All of which had been sponsored by Cross Keys Homes’ contractors Mears.
