CKH announce return of environmental work experience programme

Cross Keys Homes (CKH) is once again teaming up with Nene Park Trust and Froglife to give local young people a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain work experience as a Park Ranger.

The eight week course is open to anyone aged 18-24 and not in education, employment or training. Participants will shadow current park rangers at Ferry Meadows and at the Froglife reserves, gaining a great insight into the role, of Park Ranger as well as learning valuable, transferrable skills.

The young people will learn woodworking skills, coppicing and planting trees, and the importance of tool maintenance. They will also learn specific wildlife species identification and conduct reptile surveys. In addition, the participants will receive support and advice on getting into work, building a CV and interview skills.

CKH’s Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to get outdoors and learn about a role they may never have thought about before. So many young people who have struggled in a formal learning environment find new talents and interests when doing practical work outdoors. We hope this course will open doors for young people to find fulfilling careers in a sector that they may not have previously considered.”

The course will start on Tuesday 24 September 2024, running every Tuesday for eight weeks. Support with travel to the sites is available. To find out more and book a place, contact CKH on 01733 385000 or visit www.crosskeyshomes.co.uk/young-people.
