Peterborough Investment Partnership (PIP) has been shortlisted for the prestigious RTPI East of England Award for Planning Excellence 2017.
PIP is a joint venture formed by Peterborough City Council and the GB Strategic Land Fund which aims to support the sustained growth and development of local communities across the city by creating new jobs, retail, housing and leisure facilities. Its first project is Fletton Quays, a £120 million development which will create a vibrant extension to the city centre.
Construction started on Fletton Quays earlier this year. Regenerating an area of Peterborough which has been largely derelict since the 1970s, the development will include high-quality new homes, office accommodation, a hotel, restaurant, leisure and retail facilities with outstanding views across the River Nene.
The awards, run by the Royal Town Planning Institute’s East of England Region, recognise the positive impact planning has on our quality of life and celebrate the contribution that planners and planning make to society.
Howard Bright, Principal Development Manager at Peterborough Investment Partnership, spoke about the award success: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award as it is recognition of the unique approach we have taken to the Fletton Quays development.
“Our planners work closely with a project team of experts and colleagues at Peterborough City Council to come up with innovative solutions that go beyond simply addressing the issues posed by the site. This collaboration will result in the provision of a high-quality and sustainable redevelopment which will see the historically under-utilised riverside made accessible and brought to life for the benefit of the whole city.”
Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: “Being shortlisted for this award is a fantastic achievement for the team who have worked so hard to make this development happen.
“This is a really exciting time for the project as work is well underway on both the office accommodation and apartments on the site. Fletton Quays is really starting to take shape.”
The winners will be announced in Cambridge on Friday 22 September 2017.
