A Golf Day organised by the Barnardo’s Peterborough Fundraising Group raised £1170 for the national children’s charity.

Twelve teams from Peterborough businesses took part in a friendly competition at Burghley Golf Club on Thursday 25th April, in what was the Fundraising Group’s inaugural golf event.
Competition for prizes was fierce. Winner of the ‘Nearest the Pin’; prize was Steve Stafford of Royal Bank of Scotland. Andy Philips of Aldemore Bank and guest of MacIntyre Hudson scooped the ‘Longest Drive’ prize with the overall winning team spot taken by Streets Accountants.
The prize-giving dinner was catered for by Tony and Julie Gibbons, the Golf Club’s Catering Manager. Guests were given a personal insight into Barnardo’s work by Tony Gibbons, who gave a poignant tribute to the charity, having spent a number of his younger years in the charity’s care. The Barnardo’s Fundraising Group Chair, Barbara Spiller of NB Marketing said, “It was an amazing coincidence to find out that someone involved in the day was cared for by Barnardo’s in the past. It was wonderful that Tony felt able to say a few words to convey his appreciation for the way he and other young people were supported by Barnardo’s locally and in particular how they were encouraged to develop a moral code for behaviour and a sense of independence.”
Event organiser, Steve Stafford of Royal Bank of Scotland said, “We all enjoyed the day immensely. The banter and competition between the teams was good fun, the sun shone and we raised a fantastic amount of money for a brilliant charity. We plan to run the event again next year and will hopefully beat our fundraising total then.”
Barnardo’s Peterborough Fundraising Group includes members from Buckles Solicitors, Moore Stephens, RBS, Greenwoods Solicitors and NB Marketing Ltd.
