THE MOMENT MAGAZINE: PUTTING GREATER PETERBOROUGH CENTRE STAGE
THE MOMENT MAGAZINE: PUTTING GREATER PETERBOROUGH CENTRE STAGE

Ed’s letter,

Summer 2024 is proving pretty momentous for the UK so far – we have a new government, and at the time of writing are poised to take on Spain in the Euro finals and maybe (just maybe…) bring football home again. In this issue, we’re paying particular attention to the political shift, with interviews with Fletton and Woodston’s new councillor, Daisy Creedon-Blakemore – at 18, Labour’s youngest councillor in the UK. We also spoke to Andrew Pakes, our newly-minted Labour MP for Peterborough, to find out what makes him tick, and what his goals and ambitions are for the city.

In terms of the weather, however, summer is proving slightly more ‘business as usual’. If grey skies and drizzle are putting you off a trip to the beach, then you can still experience the majestic world of the ocean at Peterborough Cathedral’s Monsters of the Sea exhibition, running from 15 July to 1 September. It includes a fully immersive, animatronic display of sea creatures from pre-history to the present day, and a whole host of additional events, from music to yoga!

We were lucky enough to sit down for a chat with Paul Sinha, the hugely successful stand-up comedian, broadcaster and quizzer, known to many thanks to his role in ITV’s The Chase. Paul will be in Peterborough as part of the Anglia Allstar Comedy event this July, and you can find his interview on p.26.

We also weave together past, present – and future? – with a look back to the time Stamford was forced to give the new-fangled railways a swerve, and how it shaped the town we know and love today. You can read about Fotheringhay, on Peterborough’s doorstep, steeped in history thanks to its association with King Richard III and Mary, Queen of Scots. And catch up with the latest in AI and VR in the city, with our interview with digital artist Lee Mason – who also collaborated on this issue’s incredible cover!

So, however your summer is shaping up, The Moment has you covered – we’ve the usual pick of the best for events, shows and gigs at our major venues, plus an exciting selection of other features that will help you make the most of the season – whatever the weather.
